Too true. I’m Scottish. Unacceptable stuff is happening to law abiding peoples…regarding us…our freedom to choose.
On Sunday TV, (You can watch on bbc2 I-player now )
I spotted… ‘Worried About The Boy’ – a drama about Boy George’s early days. I already knew the background of George, as my gay art teacher had almost drip fed me ‘The Face’ and ‘ID’ magazines from age 14. It shaped my life and my other career for a long time.
Mr V was as camp as a row of pink tents with gay men in them, sniffing poppers. I loved him. Nice bloke. Great teacher. I eventually met his partner when I was 21. The rest of the class called him a poof. I thought he was rather fab and exciting.
George was a monthly fixture in the best mags, the ‘Blitz Kidz’ , Rusty Egan, Martin Degville, Leigh Bowery, Scarlett, Pinketessa, Philip Salon, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Antenna Hair, the first extentions (this was a massive wow), Nick Knight (is now a 60K a day photographer) …
I was viewing it all through my bedroom in Scotland…sigh. Long hair to be made from short hair was like… WTF!
There’s other progs after too, Soft Cell, the making of an album…Marc Almond etc.
The Heaven 17….as aforemetioned in above vid. See if you can spot ‘the moment of birth’ in a Kubrick film.
The music is still relevant today, the whole album is. I thought and still think , they are amazing! They have recently collaborated with La Roux.
Sunday BBC 2 I Player…
‘Heaven 17 – Penthouse and Pavement’ album live, 30 yrs after the release. Later prog, the making of.
It’s like the whole story of Joy Division/New Order/Factory records, and not so different…The Human League/Heaven17/Sheffield in the 80′s?
We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thing…
I have grown up with those boys, my town was supposedly ‘twinned’ with theirs…not glam. My town has been ejecting ladies from their legal workplaces though…I’ve been away, I have to gen up on that.
It was brilliant to see the Heaven 17 on TV on Sunday night. Their songs strike a cord, a lot.
I love it when someone does well!
Great tune, relevant….go and listen again.
Maybe it’s on the ladies theme tune album…as this tune may be too. See below.
