I love Edinburgh, it’s one of my favourite places to visit. If I ever went back to live in Scotland, Edinburgh would certainly be the one for me. I will always be an occasional Edinburgh escort though. This summer, definitely! Have been making outfits for my ‘Highland Fling’ photoshoot idea. Ready to go! Photographer found, locations sorted etc.
So when a very lovely gent asked me to spend New Year’s Eve 2012 with him there, I jumped at the chance!
So I sorted out my tickets and train time, and was on my way to Edinburgh a few days later. I was seated next to two young men who were going to the Edinburgh New Year’s Eve street party. They were very excited and chattered about it for the whole journey! I gave up on my book, and joined their chat. They had never been to Scotland before, so I gave them some pointers, where to go etc. I did think…that as they were both really super-handsome, that they were going to attract the attention of very many young Scottish lassies, and have a great time!
They spoke a mixture of French and English, I mean… changing language in the middle of sentences?
Their English was perfect, they sounded quite ‘middle class’ and with no hint of a French accent, and their French sounded like a Parisian accent, to me. How strange! They spoke like this all the time, they said.
I’m not too adept at French, but I know they said something nice about my beret and my red lipstick! They also made fun of the people at the next table drinking champagne from plastic glasses, haha. They were mostly talking about music, the party ahead, girls, and where to go in Edinburgh, so that’s when I gave up the book and chimed in. They were at school together and had been friends since, and this was one of their many world travels together. We had a good chat, and I bade them farewell upon arrival.
I also winked and said ‘I’m so glad that you like my beret and red lipstick…haha…’
Their faces were a picture! Haha!
I arrived on time (for a change, haha), and my date met me at the station. We had never met before, but I knew from our communications that everything was going to be just fine. And it was! My immediate reaction was very favourable, a handsome man indeed! He also looked like a famous Scottish actor! I did a double take!
We got a taxi to the lovely hotel (I was just absolutely delighted to find that it used to be a famous Edinburgh brothel in the far distant past!), and he had booked us into a restaurant nearby. I was quite taken with the New Year’s Eve dinner menu and said that I was happy to ‘stay at home’ for dinner if he was? So we did just that. No traipsing about in the cold for us, and easier all round!
We had a gorgeous dinner, the portions were just right for a six course meal. Champagne sorbet was a first for me! A ‘little cloud’ in a glass, ahhh… t’was super cute.
Then we retired upstairs, and saw in the midnight bells with fine champagne in bed, and Jools Holland’s ‘Hootenanay’! Jools always does a great show, doesn’t he? We heard all the Edinburgh New Year fireworks going off too.
So, I had a wonderful wonderful time with a wonderful wonderful man on New Year, 2012!
Thank you so much, darling man… you know who you are…xxx
And just when I thought my life was perfect…
It got even better, because…
THESE appeared in view at Waverley Station…Haggis Oatcakes.
Well, I never…Haggis in biscuit form! Because a simple Scottish oatcake just isn’t Scottish enough! What a brilliant idea!
I have a ‘proper’ haggis thawing out from the freezer now (thanks R!), and am imagining ‘Haggis Lasagne’ (haggagne?) never mind haggis smearings on haggis oatcakes etc. Might sell the idea to Heston B…?
I love haggis!
